Title: Help w/ Delta Dio 2496 card
Post by: kkaye on December 19, 2003, 09:29:27 PM
Just got my new card installed for transfers,
so siked!

Now I transfer one of my recent dats (Primus 11-14-03) no problem.

I try to transfer another Phish 11-29-03 and when I playback its fine, yet when I burn it the disc sounds Real Slow (like a 45 played on 33 )

Anyone have one of these cards?
I think the problem lies with using either the card master clock or the clock from my D8 (spdif in)

Should I not use the spdif in for the master clock?

Note: Im new to this card so please excuse the layman's terms.
Hmmm?

If your DAT master was recorded at 48Khz, make sure you have the sample rate set to 48khz in the program you are recording into. Sounds like a classic symptom of this being off.

and if it is anything like the audiophile 2496, you have to go to the card settings (usually a program on the toolbar) to change it to the right sample rate.

and if it is anything like the audiophile 2496, you have to go to the card settings (usually a program on the toolbar) to change it to the right sample rate.

It's exactly like the audiophile, same control panel just minute differences in the controls.

Go to the M-Audio control panel and click on hardware settings. For transfers via the S/pdif you need to set the master clock to "S/Pdif in". ( when you want to playback via winamp or whatever make sure that you set it back to teh internal clock.) Now look under sample rates, choose the appropriate sample rate of the dat you want transferred.

If the above doesn't remedy your problem try looking in the setting for the software you're using.

I'm using Sound Forge 6.0

Now for a silly question, Im new to taping so I am not sure what the original sample rate is set too ???

How can I find what the sample rate is?
I am pretty sure I taped Primus at 44.1, then when I went to tape Phish I switched it too 48.

Please don't flame me Im new to all of this, and of course thanks for all your help so far.

And for the classic question, if I did tape at 48 how do downsample to 44.1? I know SOund Forge can do this but not sure how.

Thanks folks.

what kind of deck are you using to play it back?  Most decks say on the display the sample rate it is being played back at.

I dont have experience with the D8, but look at the LCD on the unit while it is playing back...it should show 44.1k or 48k

Thanks for helping but I cannot see a sample rate.

Worst case scenario: How Do I use Sound Forge to downsample 48 to 44.1? I think this is the problem or the spdif in as described above.

Thanks for helping a newbie !

to tell what sample rate it was recorded at before you go through lengthy processes to transfer at either sampling rate, press play on the d8 and while it is playing hold down the play button, it will display the sampling frequency.  then set the settings in the DiO menu to this rate.  then set SF 6.0 to record at that sampling frequency.

Thank you Chase.
Although, I went ahead and transfered my other Primus tape (before reading this) Set One, made a cd fine.

OK thank you everyone for your help.

So to clarify, do I need to first record to hard drive at 48,
then select the resample as noted above.

You guys are a BIG help. Thank you!

Yep that's correct. (that is as long as the dat was recorded @ 48khz)

Wow you guys are great!
I went to check my Phish Dat and it was @ 48.
My Primus dats were @ 44.1 so that explains alot.

So now I think I need to use this rate to record to HD,
then follow Tom K advice to downsample after that.

So I should be looking at:
Sony D8 >7pin> Delta Dio 2496 > Sound Forge 6.0 @48

Resample to 44.1 > CD Wav

Im way lost in the shntool realm but Ill save that for another post.    :)

Thank you everyone!

if you use cdWave for tracking all splits should be fine with no sector boundry issues,  so I would suggest using mkwAct to convert to .shn,  it is really really easy

if youre new to this, id say flac it, same/a lil better compression, pplus, a huge thing for me, is the md5's are GONE,and its all in one EASY,EASY step

youd just go from your finsished/tracked cuts and open them in flac, and hit 'encode' really easy w/ one button to hit, plus, im a phlack phluffer, and its the shit ;D
