Title: Bag Question for Large Venues
Post by: Aaron734 on December 09, 2022, 12:20:00 PM
Guys:

After a substantial break (about 14 years), I am going to start putting together a new open taping rig.  I will probably be focusing on larger venues (mostly Phish) and some midsize venues in Denver.  I think my dive bar taping days are over!

I read something the other day that gave me some concerns about security at larger venues.

It seems like a silly question, but assuming I have a taper ticket, can I still bring in an audio video bag (like some sort of small lowe-pro) or do I need a see through bag?  Is there anything else I need to be aware of in terms of items we can't bring in or how to get gear in?

Thanks - Aaron

I will say that the clear bag really eases the process (and scrutiny) at these types of venues, even if not required. I just throw some foam on the bottom of the bag to protect the gear a bit.

Clear bag.  Inside the clear bag you can have another smaller hard bag given my experience.

Got it.  Thanks guys.  I guess that this will be not that big of a deal, as long as I can keep my mics in a small case in the bag.

Same here. I’ve still got my regular gear bags, but pretty much just bring the clear one these days. Adding some foam in the bottom and switching to a more padded shoulder strap was all that I needed to do. Besides being security compliant, it’s also nice to see your levels without opening your bag (assuming you don’t have one of the gear bags with the clear flap already).
