Sony Soundforge 9, any deals around ??? source?
« on: July 07, 2008, 10:38:02 PM »
can someone point me in the direction of a good vendor ?  I can't find shit for decent prices,
I *love* the mid / side mixing feature.  its the only reason I want it at all.  i'm normally a wavlab guy.

thanks...

If you don't like WaveLab's M/S mixing feature, have you considered sticking with WL and using a plugin that you like?  I like Voxengo's MSED plugin - super easy, sounds good.  Perhaps you'll like it, or another feature, enough that you won't need two different apps.  Just a thought.

just checked it out.
as a user, perhaps you can answer me this.  What I like about SF is that you can take a sample of your entire "set" track and set it to a straight 50/50 mix to start.  then while you play and listen you can drag and drop a line on a graphic representing the file to widen or center.  All of it in real time.  Once you get your ratio right, you set it and blast off.

how does the MSED work ?

Have you tried the Schoeps MS tool in wavelab? May be another option.

There has been a link posted here on ts before but I couldn't find it with a quick search, all I found was this topic:

< found it, see http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,62294.msg1118285.html#msg1118285 for the link to it but it is a Double Mid SIde tool so it may not be what you need >

I've not done it, but I believe the Schoeps double MS tool may be used for single MS, as well.

As for the Voxengo MSED plugin, it looks like this:

50/50 split is with both the Mid and Side dial at 0.  You adjust the width by raising or lowering the Mid or Side.  Lowering the Mid and / or raising the Side increases the width.  Raising the Mid and / or lowering the Side decreases the width.  For me, using Samplitude SE v9, I'm able to adjust and monitor my adjustments realtime, which I believe is what you're after.  I don't know if WaveLab supports realtime monitoring of plugins.

yes, the tool will do regular ms as well as double and a bunch of crap.
I'm trying this plug in mentioned above.  easy enough.  I just want that realtime action.

Maybe I'm not following what you're looking for as far as "realtime" goes, but you can definitely monitor(listen) to your changes in "realtime" in WL. Just double click the waveform to highlight it(or just highlight the part you want to hear)...right click and select "play selection" and then do what you gotta do with the plugins of your choice while it's playing. Then once you find the settings to your liking scroll ahead to stop the playback, and then you can render it. Like I said though I may just not be following what you're looking for.

BTW 'Stereo Tools' is another good m/s plugin for WL.
