audiophile 2496...digital whammy?
« on: December 30, 2003, 02:38:22 PM »
Alright

I've got this puppy:
<a href= "http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.main&ID=adf95efc30b88aba043fa8b83343bfb8">Audiophile 2496</a>

and I am sick of analog transfers

SO if I snagged me an md-home deck, can I whip up a digital shindig with this soundcard or do I need a new one?...some of my masters are in LP2 I should mention.

If you're sticking with the MD for recording, you basically have 2 options - get an MD with optical ouput and

[1] an optical > coax signal converter

or

[2] a different soundcard with optical inputs
Milab VM-44 Links > Fostex FR-2LE or
Naiant IPA (tinybox format) >
Roland R-05

sell the audiophile and get another card (many threads on that recently), or get the optical converter like skalinder says.  THere are many cards that have optical in.

as for MDLP capable home decks, I'm not familiar with them but they will cost a bit more of course.

There's also a way you can upgrade a MDS-xxx series Sony deck to add optical output. Check this out:

If you can find a compatible deck for cheap on eBay and you're handy with a soldering iron then you're set. I actually have an extra transmitter I'd part with if you;re interested.

Whoops, I meant to post this link instead:
http://www.mtsu.edu/~hhw2b/470mod.html

It should work the 470 is a MDLP deck.
