Distorted sound with Soundman OKM II Classic A3

Got this one a few weeks back
https://www.thomann.de/gb/soundman_okmii_incl_adapter_a3.htm
paid £160, tried to record with battery box set at -20db as instructed, both concerts, an open air festival and a concert a local pub were recorded with awfully distorted sound. Contacted Soundman and they told me I would probably need the ROCK version, but that's an extra EUR 50. I will return this to Thoman and get a refund. Very disappointed.
has anyone experience a similar problem? using this with a Roland R-07. thanks.

OKM II have a max SPL of 115db while the Rock version is much higher. Your mic capsules could not handle the sound levels present. You should get the rock version if you are happy with the Soundman sound.

Yes, You need the "rock" vrs for loud, amplified
Concerts. For several reasons i am not a huge
Fan of the okm mics but its up 2 you
There are better mics out there in terms of Sound
And build quality.
Just my 2 cents
Good luck my Friend,
