Corrupt FLAC files
« on: August 25, 2022, 11:16:44 AM »
Does anyone have any tips?  Foobar200 and TLH do not work.  Decoding through errors does not work.

I have a cassette transfer of a show someone is looking for but all of the file sets appear corrupt.  Unfortunately, all backups appear in the same state.  It may be a lost cause as the text and .cue files are also corrupt.  I cannot even open the text file to figure out where this cassette was sourced.

Try stripping file header?

Try photo recovery software?

If the FFP's don't verify then something is wrong with the files for sure.
Are they complete or could they have been only copied partially?

There are file sizes on the flacs.

Foobar, TLH, and Wavelab all fail to recognize them as valid files.  I'd use the wave header utility but these are flac files and cannot be uncompressed.

I did find a CD from this tape transfer but I'd still like access to the master transfer

listed file size doesn't guarantee file integrity.
If you use a utility to look at the contents of the file, I wonder if you'll see a bunch of zeroes?
If so, then that CD copy is looking better and better. :-\

FLAC is written as a series of packets. So it would surprise me if FLAC cannot decode it, perhaps skipping over part of the file.

Maybe a FLAC player of some sort or something that streams FLAC files would help.
