is there a cheaper version of this,  are these ok to use? anyone tried it or similar?

You're looking for any of the following Neutrik part numbers:

Many people do DIY right-angle XLRs. I have done some with drilling through the side of a connector and using a 3D-printed threaded end cap. Others use epoxy or other materials.

EDIT: I didn't realize OP was looking for an inline solution, rather than an entire new termination as these are.

^Those are all right angle cable terminations, soldered onto the cable end.

What seethreepo is asking about is a right angle adapter to which a existing XLR cable can be attached, female on one side, male on the other.

I have a couple of the TRS equivalent, bought at Radio Shack years ago, which I used into channels 5&6 of the DR-680 since those inputs were TRS only.  Worked great.

Likely to have better luck using a short interconnect with a male right angle XLR on one end and a straight female XLR on the other. Cable will bend in any direction, reduce stress on the chassis input jack, and the assembled chain can be much more compact.

I would avoid the Cable Techniques right-angle connectors. There have been reports of long-term reliability issues.

I am too considering my soldering ability is pretty much garbage.
