xACT; 24/96???
« on: January 25, 2005, 10:03:36 AM »
Can xACT decompress a 24/96 FLAC? I just tried and when loaded into DP it said the file was 16bit and 65khz or something. If it cannot is there a codec for MAC OS that can? Please aim me to it....

it can.

run the "shntool info" command on the file in xACT and verify that it is 24/96

have you tried to open it in anything else?

by DP you mean digital performer?
16/65khz is the max rate that quicktime can use, but DP should be using core audio so i'm not sure about that.  but xACT can most definitely handle 24/96 flac files.  I do it all the time

have you tried opening the decompressed file in another app?

I had only tried it in DP at this point. I erased the decompressed files. DP can do 24/96 so I didn't think that was the issue. I decompressed to AIFF, maybe I need to go to WAV? Ever though about adding SDII options for a codec? I've always yearned for that! Let me check out a couple things...
Thanks Scott!

If you're not running a core audio device via DP, I don't think it will properly open a high-resolution file. Do you have anywhere else to play it back? How about Spark?
Out of the game … for now?

can you try opening it in any other app?  trying wav might be different, but i still don't understand why dp is thinking in quicktime and not core audio.

does dp need you to do anything special when importing 24/96 files?  do you have to choose an output that supports 24/96 for it to work correctly?

xACT just calls the flac program, and flac likes 24/96 just fine.

Interesting. When I decompressed to WAV and checked wth SHNtool they showed up 24/96 when I retried one as aiff it showed 32bit 96k.

I'm using DP with a MOTU 896 for playback. I don't usually record at 96k and typically use a VX Pocket for playback.

Nope!

Weird. It worked fine when decoding to WAV. Maybe AIFF is associated with Quicktime on my mac...

thanks guys! +t
