just wondering who has the best prices since the price increase awhile back. maybe considering a change
-
bump
-
are you looking for a matched pair or just a set?
-
either really, most likely il buy a matched pair if i have an option
-
I think Sonic Sense is around 800 for a matched pair
Full Compass have unmatched for 650
-
wow, that isnt bad at all
i have an email out to sonicsense and wind over the earth, as i recall them being the 2 most decent prices awhile back.... i guess i need to get on the phone
might try to do a trade for some 480s if anyone is interested here
-
cayman, what caps you have for the 480s?
;)
-
For matched set, check out proaudiotoys.com with "free ecoupons"
-
cayman- I would go to ADK directly... Larry Villela (sp?) was a pretty awesome dude. If you want, PM me, and I can get you his email/phone number when I am at work tomorrow.
I would imagine that they will be cheapest by cutting out the middle man, but you never know.

decent prices for some matched TL's here, with the Ecoupon.... 899 for a matched set is pretty decent i think
-
WOW, the 899 is before the 15% ecoupon...
764.15 for a matched set?!?!?!?!?!

I got my matched set from Sonic Sense in November 2003 - $699

that was before the price increase also

Yup. there was a lot of question as to whether they were selling matched pairs, but mine were.

Larry does not sell directly though. You have to go through a retailer...

:hmmm:
Could be true... but I am pretty sure I saw someone on here saying they got them though him.
-
which retailer does he reccomend? i remember once he reccomended going through wind over the earth.com but they ended up shooting me the same price as SS, actually like 30 bucks higher

I used to speak with him pretty regularly when I was first getting into ADK mics and I know for sure that they do not sell directly. He was nice enough though to drop ship me 6 TL's once and let me hand match them at my house, then pay a certain retailer for the two I decided to keep. The other 4 I sent back to Larry. He is definitely a good guy.

There's the word.
Well, Cayman, if you need convincing, Larry is awesome for customer service. One of my TL's was cutting out, and I called him, and he agreed to send me a replacement while I shipped mine out to a repair facility. I wasn't out of my mics for any time at all (except the one he sent didnt match mine...).

NICE! cant beat that for customer service. how much off were the 6 you tested? should i be worried about getting an unmatched set?

He is definately one of the nicest guys in the business. He used to respond to everyone's e-mails within a hour or so, until he got really busy with trade shows and the sort. The fact that he was willing to sedn out 6 mics without meeting me was a really nice gesture in my opinion. Hell, call him up and see if he will sell direct. maybe they have changed their policy...
-
looks like i need to get on the phone tomorrow, and get these retailers direct instead of waiting for email responces
-

764.15 for a matched set?!?!?!?!?!
Plus free shipping and pop filter (just one?). I'm thinking of buying from them unless someone can talk me out of it.

Yeah, I have alot of emails out to retailers that I never got a response from...
I wish places would just publish their prices online.
-
i didnt see that they had free shipping too, and one free pop filter?!?! but i could definantly use it if they are giving it away with my work for the local badn i archive for!
ive got one certain email out that im awaiting a response from, if it isnt lower than the 764, im jumping on that!
-
+t for joining team ADK... the TL's are bodacious- I'm sure you'll dig em.
-
I paid a bit more from wind over the earth but their customer service was really good.
-
i havent talked with wond over the earth since befopre the price increase, i sent them an email yesterday afternoon...
but the guy at ADK reccomended them back then
-
WOE does a bunch of studio stuff i believe. If you're trying to use them in the studio, i would imagine that they could be a good reference.
-
well guys ive got some pretty great quotes on new matched sets.
the best advertised price was:
http://proaudiotoys.com/ @ 764 shipped (matched
i did encounter some decently better prices that i had to email the retailers to get:
ADK A51 TL Matched pair $729 + shipping
ADK A51 TL Matched pair $750 including shippin
ADK A51 TL Matched pair $795 + shipping
these were the 3 other quotes that i recieved, all coming from well spoken of and known online retailers that we have all dealt with
pretty sure the akg are getting ready to get posted for sale tonight
-
nice dustin...way to price shop. you're gonna love the TL's....and somebody is gonna love the 480's as well :) +T
-
yeah, and ive got another purchase coming up next week, after only 2 runs i think the 410 will be for sale as well next week.... gonna be possibly the first to run this box
-
did those come with the heavy duty shock mounts and case for that price?
-
yep, matched with the heavy duty shockmounts and flight case
-
damn. i paid 800, with a 20% off coupon from newsoundcard.com.
that guy there also gave me a free upgrade on shipping to overnight from ground. i am happy with them. taped blumlien onstage last night. best pull yet.
-
enjoy them, I have been very pleased, really get to put them to the test over memorial day weekend.
-
what do you guys use for (major) windscreens for these? like for say the gorge? how bout normal use?
-
I have never had any problems with the windscreens that came with them. I taped in front of a fan a couple weeks ago, couldn't hear it at all on the recording...
-
I have used mine on the edge of a lake with some good winds and I couldn't hear any wind on the recording
-
nice, if i go with these i'd just be worried about the wind factor for dmb up at the gorge. anybody run these with a ua5 (warm or stock)? what do ya think?
-
run the omni's if its windy
-
I run TL>wmod UA5 on occation - very warm, smooth (slightly laid back) highs, punchy bass. I think its a great combo. Here's some recordings on Archive.org:

I run them with w-mod as well. I really like it, but I am a little biased 8)
I would like to try them out with the p-mod though. something tells me that the p-mod would sound good with LD mics...
-
run the omni's if its windy
not usually the best idea there i don't think. sound tends to bounce a good deal
thanks craig!
-
agreed, sound may bounce, but if the wind is tooting good your tapes are going to suck anyways if you don't ;D
-
i used to run the TL's with the w-mod and Craig's description is right on.
not sure about the refelctions at the gorge, i remember it sounding damn good when i was there a few years ago. but then again i was REALLY close to the stage. but if you are going to be taping htere more than once i'd try going split omnis at least. who knows....you just might be drooling when you listen to your tapes later ;D

oh i have no doubt it could turn out great from up front and center, but i'm about 10 rows back and 100% isolated on one side of the PA every night.

I bought the WS89 (U89 windscreens) for mine, and they have survived some howling conditions without a hint of wind noise. It seems that it will usually get to the stage mics before mine.

run the omni's if its windy
I was under the impression that the TL's do not benefit much (if at all) from running omni in windy conditions. This is due to the fact that they get their omni pattern from combining 2 card patterns (front and rear). I think that a true desigated omni cap is where you will get the advantage in the wind. Can someone confirm this or tell me that I'm a misinformed moron?
