Beyer CK930 set and CK950
« on: May 29, 2009, 02:13:15 PM »
Anyone own the CK930 set? I see a hypercard version may be available, CK950. I wonder if the hyper caps can be purchased separately?

Jason Sobel has been running a pair of the cards and has posted a few shows in the kickdown.

Very nice, compact looking setup.

Several sets owned by TSers. Quite a few post in the Team Beyer thread. Also a set of 910s on Beyer's site.  Without doublechecking I believe they are omnis. Don't know if the caps can be purchased seperately but it wouldn't surprise me if you could since Beyer lists individual part numbers for most of the MC9xx mics (capsule, cable, mic body/amp, clips, etc.). It also wouldn't surprise me if MSRP of just the cap is as much as you can get a complete set from some of the online retailers.

yes, I've had my pair of CK930's for a few months, and I've been very pleased with them.  I know a few other folks here also have the CK930's as well.  So far, all of my recordings have with the mics have been directly into a Marantz PMD-661 (with the oade concert mod).

Here are a few examples:
Club d'Elf - April 19, 2009 - mics on-stage (16 bit & 24 bit version)

Club d'Elf - May 22, 2009 - mics on-stage (16 bit & 24 bit version)

Justin Townes Earle - May 13, 2009 - (only the 16 bit version is on the LMA)

In regards to the CK930 and the CK950 sets, from what I gather, the standard sets that beyerdynamic sells include the caps, cables, and mic bodies.  Though each of those items has its own part number, so it may be possible to special order just the caps seperately (and not buy a second set of mic bodies).  However, I'm not really sure either way.  I have thought about it, but I haven't inquired as to whether or not that is possible, for a coueple of reasons.  First off, I'm not too interested in buying hypers, as very few of the situations I find myself taping in would benefit from having hypers, and two, I don't have any extra money to buy more gear these days (actually the whole reason why I got the beyerdynamics in the first place was because I could sell my Microtech Gefells, but the beyerdynamics, and still have money left over).  Personally, I'll be more interested in the possibility of buying the caps seperately if and when the decide to release CK910 (omni caps).  They already have the MC910 (full body omni mics, to go along with the MC930 and the MC950), so it's entirely possible that they'd also release an omni version in the CK series.  And for my taping situations, an omni cap could be very useful.

Buying the caps only would probably be expensive. Whats the best price on a pair of CK930's? I'm seeing 749 per mic.

Give Full Compass a call.  Back in March they told me that the CK930 are typically $560 per mic ($1120 for a pair).  I got lucky because they were moving warehouses or something, and got them for less.  And when you're on the phone with them, ask them about just ordering the caps and see if they can do that too.

Thanks for the tip. That is a nice price. I'll ask about caps. ;)

Ditto that.  I've called for prices on 3 occasions for Beyers (bought once), and they have always offered a better price than the website.

I've owned a set for about 3 months, however, I have yet to run them  :P  I will be giving them a workout the last day of bonnaroo though so I will post some samples.

Full Compass has nice prices, who I bought from.
