My son managed to screw up his ipod classic. It was reset and wiped clean somehow.... I have attempted several times to restore it but it won't restore to the point where it will be reconized by itunes and resync. I have performed all update etc etc.... run diagnostics... nothing nada...
the dam thing won't reconize... any thoughts on what to do next.

same thing happened to the ms. she contacted apple and they were pretty helpful and got it up and running again

Yep went this route....got the one time free diagnosis deal and as it turns out the ipod has a hardware issue....apple will fix it for free.... pretty good customer service I'd say... I may consider the apple protection plan for the next 2 years with this kind of service.....

Apple replaced my son's Ipod with a brand new one free.....talk about customer service, it went from PA. monday 7/11/11 at 4pm to Ca. and he revcieved his new ipod from Ca. Wed. 7/13/11 at 2pm......now that is turnaround service..... They emailed me every step of the way....

^ Similar story here.
I had an iPod 5G die once under warranty. Apple overnighted a self-addressed overnight-back-to-Apple return box and overnighted me a new one by the third day. It was nuts! And this was CA >Pittsburgh > CA > Pittsburgh. Damn thing is still going strong 5+ years later.
