i see pics all the time of guys with really nice looking pick and pluck foam in pelicans and such, it is always really nice looking.
i cant for the life of me figure out how you guys make it look so good after it is plucked. especially the pelican that rabhan had for the neumann active setup that joew now has
and tips/hints on how to make mine look good when i do it
it is a pelican 1060 for my 480s, ck61s, and ck63s

i was thinking that....
i have tryed plucking it and using a pair of scissors to trim it flat but that didnt really go over well
i need to find the link with JoeW's neumann actives setup to show you what i mean

I think a good sharp utility knife will do the trick.

Be careful and plan on making a mess (ie. do some your trimming somewhere that is sweepable later).

Just cut on the perforated lines & pull it out.
EDIT Actually cut along the lines. Then push down to tear it. Then pull it out.

thats what i was doing, but without any knives
it is just all uneven and shitty looking after i tear it out, i guess it will ahve to do, ive had the 1060 for like 4 months and havent used it yet...

I think I'm going to look into getting foam from a craft store and custom cutting it myself. Probably cheaper than getting new pick 'n pluck and I think I'll be happier with the results.

i ended up taking the foam, and seperating each little square and pulling it up and cutting it with a small pair of scissors that the wife has for her nails or something, they were curved a bit to be able to get down in there and snip each square off
turned out pretty darn good
it took me 3 months to find foam here, you would think with as many craft stores as i have been to in the past 3 months i would ahve found it, but by accident i found it yesterday, and it only costed me a buck for a piece big enough to do my 1060 and a piece big enough to make a padded custom case for my picturebook too!

Anyone have specific stores that carry this foam? I live in Cleveland and want play around with some. Is the only place to get the pre-cut stuff used in the pelican case on-line, or are there stores which might have some? ???

I could not find any at the chain craft stores or local hobby shops
where I live, I can't speak for cleveland, try team ohio if this
gets overlooked.
A tip while trimming the foam if it starts to cling to you
grab a fabric softening sheet if you use them and rub it over the foam
a few times and wipe your hands with it as well.
It will cut down on the static. I did not use pick&pluck so I don't know
if it will do that or not. I used some foam blocks I had here and hacked it up.
So I had slivers of foam clinging all over the place :P

I bought a pelican case as a Christmas gift for someone from ebay.
The guy that I got the case and foam from was very friendly and helpful and also located in Cleveland.
Here is a list of what he has for sale right now. I also ordered pick and pluck foam from him seperately at a reasonable price..
I think $3 or so...
If you emailed him, I would bet that he would be more than helpful.

I personally like using pipe insulation that only costs $2 for an 8' length.
I store my CMC6s in those. For running in the field, I have a smaller leather guitar case I have trimmed that is pretty easy to use with KC5 cables, etc. I have not tried to drill the caddy for use with an active setup, though I'm sure one could. Although it'd be safest, I think my leather case is fine for what I'm doing, since my bag is padded and tightly packed itself. It's also much lower profile.

Dodd Camera carries Pelican cases, so they might have the foam as well. I live near the Middleburg store and I've never seen the foam there, so you might want to try their big store downtown. If you wanted non-pick foam (i.e., regular foam blocks) JoAnn Fabrics has them. The foam they have seems more for upholstery, since it's kinda soft, but it would work.
