Radio Shack DIY microphone
« on: August 27, 2009, 12:40:37 PM »
I put together a rather simple design this summer, I took a three wire Radio Shack condenser mic element and connected them into a gold plated connector. The specs for this mic read 30-15,000 Hz but I have been hesitant to use it at a show. Could anybody give me an idea how this would work at a live show or what it would be comparable to?

Here is a link to the element:

I have to admit, years ago when I had no $$ and had to stealth a show, I used a set of RS caps like those. It sounded ok- the 30 hz spec may be a little generous. They sounded tinny to me. But for $3.95 WTF.

Thanks for the response. How would they compare to the other budget mics (Giant Squids, SP-BMC-2, Sony ECM-717 etc.)? Better, worse, about the same?
