Quick/cheap/temporary pre?
« on: May 26, 2007, 06:17:42 PM »
I have a 744 and need a quick/cheap/temporary pre for the line inputs.
For the long run, I will probably go with an Nbox or Lemosax for use with my MK caps and a wireless receiver for other work.
But, I need something right away just for a temporary solution.
(Of course I don't expect it to work with my schoeps caps without bodies.)

Well, after a few hours of thinking about this, I finally remembered that I sold my 670 locally to a friend.
So, I think I will borrow it and use its pre's (while they ain't great, they'll do the trick).
But now I am left with another thing to think about:
Should I send out a digital signal and use the 670's ADC?
Or, send an unbalanced line out and use the 744's ADC?

Decent price on decent pre.  Should fit your needs fine.  Other options in that similar price range (maybe more) is a SD mp-2.  They pop up time to time.  Another option is the apogee mini mp.  Fantastic pre for around $600, give or take a few bills depending on vendor and whether it is new or used.  After that you get into the other more expensive pre's.
