the ONLY possible change I've thought of making is trading the 4022's in on a pair of ccm5's. be real nice to have 1) no bodies, 2) no extra caps to deal with, just a switch, and 3) really want some omnis.

just suck it up and buy some DPA 4036's.  ;D

why not the 4052s?

http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=45082.0

I wouldn't even have noticed the difference if it wasn't for the Zee-man!       :P

All about the $$$$$. I could sell the 4022's for 2200, and kick down another thou and have the ccm5's. gotta believe the 4052's are at least 3200 at this point?

the only thing holding me back is the most important thing....I don't like the murk as much. ;D

lucks has first dibs, but I've run these for 4 years now, and it's gonna be tough. I've toyed with just picking up a pair of TL's but damn those things are big and heavy. My sole motivation for even considering a change is to have a pair of omnis...specifically for recording in Colo goddamn windy Rado. ;D

For high-quality omnis at a lower price than the DPA's will run, might want to check out the Earthworks QTC line, super flat response (even flatter than the DPA's which have that little HF bump). I personally haven't heard these but they look like great mics. Plus being omnis I would think they would not be as bright as the cardioid SR71/77 which were always a little too thin sounding to my ears.

I always likes sideshowbobs mk5>toobes>m222>nt222 setup better than any mk4 tape w/ the same lineage, especially for phish

the HF boost makes them sound less like schoeps, thats why i like them better ;D

You're just mad 'cause AKGs have no bottom end...

AKG = the sound of thin air

I have def heard some nice 414 recordings...

Personally, I have always thought the AKG sound was a bit bright (almost brittle) and thin
That being said, I have many AKG recordings that I like
I do like the 460s w/ the JW mod, they are smoooth

At this point it is really a matter of personal taste - there are many on this site who are pulling great tapes with many different mics...

I definitely dig the CK62 omni caps, one of my favorite tapes is WSP 7-14-99 CK62/C480>V2>ADC20, such a sweet sounding low end on this tape.  Full and true, great feel to this recording.
