Topic: AT943/933 bodies and caps VS AT853 bodies and caps

It has been stated that the 853's have a flatter response and better performance than the 943's.  However is the difference found in the capsules or the bodies?  Or both?

I run the 943's with the 853 card caps via the at-adapter.  Would I get the same sound if I switched to the 943 capsules?

I run 933/853 and have been wondering the same thing. I've been considering a move to the 933/943 caps as they're much smaller but don't want to sacrifice sound quality. I've also considered DPA 4061's for the size... but like the availability of multiple caps.

I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in stejampzy's thread. But since windorabug asks the question specifically here, I'll answer it here.

When I talked, at great length, about the 943/933s with Chris at Sound Professionals, he said the following: that he actually prefers the sound of the 943s. He said he thinks they might be better sounding mics than the 853s, even though the printed specifications indicate otherwise.

So I asked for any explanation on that, and he followed with this: he said the 853s are "ancient" (have been around a long time) and that the testing equipment now (probably used to measure the specs for the 943s) is probably more accurate than the equipment used to measure specs on the 853s.

Disclaimer: these are not my thoughts nor interpretations, I'm just relaying informations here that I was told.
