Title: Recommendations for 744t hirose battery
Post by: StuStu on January 05, 2012, 05:43:52 PM
I'm looking for battery recommendations for my 744t's hirose connector. The recorder says 10-18v.

Wouldn't a Tekkeon work??

I've looked at their website and they don't seem to offer too many choices. I've never owned a Tekkeon and don't know which model people usually use. I know a lot of people here do use them.

I use one with my 722. Either of the 3450 models are ok, the differences are the industrial model has dipswitches for voltage selection instead of the plug and button/lock system of the regulars, the i model has an extra 8 watt-hrs over the normal, and last, the I model can do 11v & 12v (in addition to other voltages) while the normal ones can't do 11v (but can do others). Technically the I model will do 10v, but the voltage sags just a bit on most (but not all) tekkeons and can trigger the switch over to the 7.2v bottom battery so you have to go to at least 11v. Both are compatable with the 3450-10 extra batteries (but the remaining capacity LEDs are off in my experience).

Either way, you need someone (if you won't do it yourself) to make a cable for it.

There may be better batteries out there for watt-hr per dollar spent, but I haven't looked lately. I like the tekkeons because I have at least 5 devices (a 722, a macbook, my usbpre2, and a D50, cellphones, etc) that I can use the batteries for, so they get use.

edit: I just realized the wording of the voltage ability was sort of off. made a correction there. Also, I've found that the mah at a given voltage that tekkeon posts is accurate compared to the LEDs which vary by unit in their accuracy. I've used a handful of tekkeons (both I and regular) and each unit as a few quirks, but they are generally solid batteries.
