Title: I NEED help learning how to live stream my audio recordings ;)
Post by: F.O.Bean on February 22, 2020, 06:22:15 PM
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm a TOTAL noob when it comes to streaming, and I've only done it once ever, and that was for another taper at Resonance 2017 for the Twiddle set, and that was it!!! He had everything setup on his phone using a stereo patch from my MixPre-6 and using Mixlr to stream it, with a TRS -> TRRS cable I believe he said is all I needed to do it, and ALL that I had to do was monitor the levels through Mixlr. So is it really as simple as buying a trs -> TRRS cable and an old iPod touch or iPhone, and using the Mixlr app?

I want to do the exact same thing, except I only have my Google Pixel 3 phone and I don't want to use it for that because I monitor my MixPre levels with Wingman and I take a lot of photos.

Is it possible to pick up a used, cheap iPod touch or iPhone or something like that? Obviously it needs to have a 3.5mm/1/8" jack on it. Is that all that's needed besides a TRS -> TRRS cable to go from my MixPre -> device/iPod/etc, and the Mixlr app?

I've definitely helped and mentored numerous tapers throughout the last two decades, so if someone could please be kind enough to school me in on what's needed device and cable wise, as well as software wise, I'd GREATLY appreciate it 😎👍🕺✌️🎙️🎧

Please send me a text message at my number below if you have some free time and don't mind helping me out quickly! I catch on to things VERY fast usually, so we should hopefully just need to go over everything ONCE 😉

Thanks for the space!

Happy Taping,

The iPhone input is mono, so to stream anything in stereo (edit: via the 1/8" jack) requires an additional piece of hardware. Here's a thread about it: https://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=179106.0

Happy to talk if you have any questions.

With a MixPre6 all you need is an iOS device and the usb-lightning cable.
The mixpre will act as an usb I/O audio interface.

That will enable the iOS to record or stream two channels from the mixpre with an app of choice.
The LR mix is a good idea to use.

Is this what you are looking for?

I did this for a while but the iDevice end sets the bitrate and I found myself ended up with 16 bit recordings because I forgot to check everytime I streamed...

Mixlr for mobile, only allows 32kb bitrate. I recommend using larix broadcaster and a rtmp server. You can configure it to use as only audio.

If you have someone at home with OBS, you can do something interesting.

So the idevice set your MixPre bitrate to 16 bit on it's own?

Thanks for the help everyone!!!
