Any good DVD player recommendations (under $100)
« on: May 03, 2006, 09:41:44 PM »
Well I'm in need of a good DVD player. I was considering the Oppo upconverting player that gets a lot of praise these days but that might be a little expensive for me. I'm definitely upgrading to an HD-based DVD system as soon as those become affordable so I'd rather not spend more than $100 on a new player. Any recommendations for my new home theater? :)

I think the HD players are going to need more time than you're patience has with anything under 100$.  I'd set up a lemonade stand for a few days and get the cambridge audio dvd-89 personaly I think it's the best bang for your buck right now.

here is what you need...it is great.  plays all region dvds, mpg files, divx, pretty much anything.  and it's CHEAP.  we've had one for years and it is awesome.  check wally world, that's where we got ours

edit:  i don't get all the bad reviews.  i mean the pic is not crystal clear hd, but for 60 bucks what do you want.  however all these people having broken ones.  we've had ours for at least 2 years and the thing has NEVER had a single problem

I was heavily considering this one. I read somewhat that it had problems with DTS soundtracks though so that would hurt things.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question - will this play PAL DVDs on a US TV without issues?

i got that philips from best buy, it was defective. i took it back and got the toshiba (forget the model #) and it broke in like a month. still got it, still broken, unfortunately i lost the receipt so i'm gonna have to buy another one of the same model to get my $$ back.
