I have seen this unit talked about on here, but not in regards to powering the UA5. Does anyone know if this battery unit will power the UA5, and does one of the adapter plugs it comes with fit the UA5???
Thanks for the help
-
I guess I have better answers here when I can look around than I do on email..........
:P
That will power the ua-5 and it looks like it will have an end that will fit as well. It comes with an end that is 5.5mm OD x 2.1mm ID which is the same as the adapt-a-plug "m".
In short....yes it will just fine. :)
Do make sure of the polarity when putting the tip on the cord.....UA-5 has reversed polarity. The RING should be hot + and the tip is ground - on the ua-5.

Thanks for the response. I'm a little confused as to the part about the polarity though. Is there an easy way to know the answer to this before I buy the unit, or no? Or do you mean there are two ways to put the ring on the cord and I have to just make sure it's facing the correct way?
Thanks again

See how the plug end gets connected? There are 2 pins....one is + the other -. To change the polarity you just turn the connector 180*. I'm probably making it sound more complicated than it is... :P
As for how to check.....if you have a digital multimeter there are a bunch of ways. The plug itself may be marked as well.

That's exactly the info I needed. Thanks.!
-
with this battery, you CANNOT switch the polarity of the plugs by simply turning around the connecter
i have 2 of these specific batterys, and the plug/cable is wired so that the positive stud that connects to the plug/cable is larger than the negative one... you cannot simply just turn these around like a radio shack adaptaplug cord
you wopuld have to hack it and put a different connecter on it, which is easily done, but the charge cable is short, so hacking it is a PITA
-
So this will not work with the UA5 as is, it needs to be modified. Thanks.
-
Don't be afraid to modify! :)
-
get some sort of multimeter and modify away. Take the guess work out of the equation.
-
i modified one that i had, to put a custom plug to fit my laptop once....
just need to lengthen the charger wire and add the same kind of connecter to it... the wire on the charge is only like 2 inches long, so onc you hack it, it is really short
it is very do-able

I got mine from here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50603&item=5700232813&rd=1&ssPageName=WDV
It's listed as 9.6v but the battery says 12v. Looks like the same exact set up as batteryspace, but i got mine for the starting price a couple months back. I put the r/c style connectors on the battery and charger and one on the cable to go to the ua-5, works great.
Definitely check your connections with a meter. Real easy if you've never done it.
-
If it goes backwards one the meter that means your connections are backwards. Other than that not much more to know.

that looks as if it is made by the same company making the 12v 4000mah packs from battery space, the charger and tips are exactly the same it seems
