Title: SD 722 repair
Post by: Duncan on January 04, 2018, 05:13:04 PM
Hi
I've had my 722 for a fair few years now and unfortunately the menu button decided to fall off just before Christmas
I thought I'd order the part and fit it myself
When I open it up I realised that this isn't straight forward, in fact I can't see where to begin.

Has anyone got any experience doing this?
SD want a lot to do it and it also means shipping it over to Germany from the UK

Might need to get a mixpre6 which would only work out 2x the repair costs :-(

Any help much/advice appreciated

Duncan

x2.

SD takes care of their gear, will give you a return authorization almost immediately, fix quickly and ship back ASAP.

As good as their gear is, it's their service which makes me most happy to be a SD customer.

Thanks for the replies guys
The thing is that the cost of the repair would be about half the money towards a MixPre6 so I think I'm going to have to either keep using it without the menu button and see if I can get the menu up when I need it or fix the buttons keypad myself and hope it goes ok
Then I can get on and get the MP6 too.
It would be close to $500 for the repair inc post and tax that's a lot on a deck that's going for less than a K

Do love my 722 though

Cheers

Did a little bit of work on my 744T myself, cleaning the contacts of the buttons. To no avail, I might add - I need new parts.

It may seem scary at first but it's not such a big deal really - just pay a lot of attention to the screws. The front of the recorder has a small board which also fits the screen. Changing the screen (which I also have to do) is more complicated - but I'm thinking I'll try that too, if I can get the part.

So - I will have to do some repairs to my own unit soon enough - but I'm not getting any help from the local dealer concerning parts. Did you order a new menu button? Where from?

I'd be willing to take some pictures and/or video while repairing my unit, but I need the parts first...

All the best,
Florian
