Title: CF Card dump HDD thingy???
Post by: twatts (pants are so over-rated...) on November 11, 2007, 02:56:55 AM
I've read about it here, but can't remember what they are called to do a search...

I'm looking for a portable external HDD thingy that I can stick my CF Card into (from the HD-P2) and copy the WAV files over so I can clean-up and re-use my card for more recording...  Thinking about Festivals...

What are they called???  And can anybody link the previous thread(s)???

Thanks and +Ts to all!

Terry

I use a Hyperdrive HD-80.  I forget who makes it, but it's essential for my mini-tours and festies.

Wow those are a lot more expensive than I expected...  For that money, I can by an old laptop and card reader and do the same thing...

or, with that money, just invest in more 8GB cf cards.
with 8GB cards less than $100 each (here's one for $56: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208340 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208340)), it really should be feasible to get enough cards to cover an entire festival.  at 24/48, each card is 8 hours of recording time.  get yourself a 3 or 4 cards and you're probably good to go :)

screw 8GB cards. with those 16GB A-Data cards at barely over 100/shipped, those are def the wy to go. (2) 16GB cards will yield 32 hrs at 24/48........

yes, currently the HD-P2 has issues with 16 GB cards.  you can use a 16 GB card, but the HD-P2 will not record more than 8 GB to a single card.  the unit just completely freezes up.  For many months, Tascam was basically telling us that the issue was hardware based and could not be fixed by firmware.  More recent news indicates that they're working on a firmware fix for this, but nothing has been promised.  So, at this point, I'm not selling my 16 GB card in hopes that the HD-P2 will be able to record to all of it, but I wouldn't suggest buying a 16 GB card (unless you can find a killer deal) until a firmware update is available to fix the issue.
