Edirol R1 large CF card capacity..
« on: June 15, 2005, 03:52:59 PM »
Any one know how the Edirol R1 works with larger
CF 2 & 4 gig cards? Considering it's file size  limitations,
how does  it access the extra gigs?
thanx in advance
Ray

I have used 2, 4 and 8 GB cards in it (firmware version 1.03).  You simply stop a recording before the 2 GB limit, or it stops itself, saves the file, and turns off.  You start a new file, named sequentially, and have up to 2 GB to record in that one.  With an 8 GB card at 24 bits 44.1 kH you can record almost 9 hours in four or more files of up to 2 hours 12 minutes each.

i ape the previous comment 100%, but i also want to add this --

my 4gb sandisk ultra II flash card has a little toggle switch on it where you select FAT16 (2gb only), FAT32 (2x 2gb partitions), or FAT32 (1x 4gb partition)

before i noticed the toggle, i was momentarily stumped why the r1 would format the card and only see 2gb of space.  the default position was one FAT16 partition.  after switching it to one 4gb FAT32 partition, obviously everything formatted out the way i would've expected to begin with.

i love my r1!  so far i've done really nice masters of van morrison & robert fripp and couldn't be happier.
