ISO JB3 firewire help please
« on: June 16, 2005, 07:51:23 AM »
I checked the FAQ and did'nt find/understand a fix for this.

When I connect my JB3 to my PC with the firewire cable nothing happens.
But when I connect it via USB, Creative PlayCenter starts up and recognizes
the JB3. Should'nt it do the same when I connect via firewire? Any help is
much appreciated. Thanks all.

a better option for the jb3 is the autoupdate option. just plug er in via usb and let er rip

Are other FW devices working with the same socket, card and cord? Is Windows recognizing that a device has been added?

thanks, +T

yes, i had a external HD connected to the same socket. i unplugged it in order to connect the jb3.

windows is not recognizing that a device has been added.

it is recognized when connected via USB though. i would just transfer via USB but i get an error when i do.  ???

One thing that is different (from my experience) between firewire and USB is this.  When I use the USB all I have to do is plug it into the JB3 and the computer recognizes it and the JB3 powers up on its own.  When I use firewire I have to manually power up the JB3 before the computer will recognize it.  My only other problem came from a bad firewire card.  A new higher quality card fixed this.  Hope this helps.

http://www.redchairsoftware.com/notmad/  is the home of Notmad Explorer. There is a free evaluation download available from the site if you want to test it before purchasing.

I find it much better/more functional than the software that ships with the JB3.

i havent had any problems with using fw other then when i am updating firmware/etc (can only be done usb)

if you plug a hard drive into the fw port that you are using for the jb3 there maybe a compatability issue (in the sense that is a conflict in the resources alloted to the different devices)  you may want to unplug the external hd and reboot and then connect the jb3 and see if that helps (after you have the most current drivers installed for both the jb3 and the firewire card)

also, the interface could be giving you issues.  my experience is less is more.  i only use the creative nomad explorer (and current drivers) and that serves the function i need (searching and transfering files on and off the jb3) just fine without the extra crap that can clog resources.
