comp freezes
« on: March 29, 2004, 11:27:55 AM »
Whenever I encode, or convert audio files my computer freezes.  It also freezes during games.  I can do everything else except those 2 things (word, dvd ripping, burning, etc. all fine).  This weekend my power supply went out.  Is there any chance its not getting enough juice to fuel those problems?  Is it a windows problem?  or is it a bad hard drive?  Any advice would be great.  Thanks.

I'm guessing power supply.  Buy something better than a no-name PS.  It's only the most important part in the system ;)

im thinking about formating and reinstalling windows...
does anyone think that the different size ram could be the problem?
also i used windows restore to my original settings, but still got the same problem.

Uh, yeah. I'd say you have heat issues on your CPU. No more than 50 c is what you want.
Governor Jim McGreevey was equally disturbed about the upcoming population increase. "New Jersey cannot support all of these wookies," he said. "For starters, we don't have nearly enough kindbud. At best, we can muster up a Q.P. of some beasties, but we've not a dime-bag more."

Holy CRAP!  Do you have ANY fans in that system?  You could make your dinner inside that case.  You didn't say what kind of processor you had.

That doesn't say what kind.  There's like 3 versions of that chip.

I bought a new heat sink.  When i took the old one off the thermal glue was total crap.  So i am guessing thats it.  I also bought a new case with 5 fans.  Now my temp is in the 30s
