Title: homebrew dual voltage battery for short money
Post by: Nick's Picks on April 21, 2006, 11:58:32 AM
thought this might come in handy for someone on the board.

I run a UA5 (9v-12v) and a MicroCraper (5v USB) and didn't want to drop more money on yet another battery.
so..
I took my PR2E battery and hacked its cable.  I wired up a seperate cable to it (spliting it off to two leads from the battery).  One lead has a radio shack 7805 Voltage regulator inline.  its dropping the 11v out of the PR2E down to 4.9v-ish.  Powers up the MT just fine though.  I'll be testing it to make sure it is not the cause of random shutoffs and whatnot.  I had the battery to begin with, but the VR piece was a buck fifty.  I hope it all works.
Yes, I'll be putting a fuse inline to the MT.

you may want to attach that VR to something that will act as a heat sink. Those little guys can get hot as hell.
