Help me catch my neighbor Red-handed
« on: October 08, 2007, 05:36:18 PM »
Does anyone have suggestions for a motion activated hidden camera.  I live in a duplex and I think my neighbor is up to no good.  Like the kind of no good you might see on TV.

So I need something that will take video only motion activated, as I do not wan't to watch hours of nothing.  No VCR stuff just digital.  It will be hidden in the garage about 120' away and in the front of the house.

Between 0 and $500

The cheaper the better

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

If you pay me $500, I'll camp out with a video camera for a week...

Excellent idea...

I also know a lot of the small webcams come with software that can be set to capture only on motion.  If not check out this link.  It may be fairly low quality video, but probably good enough for this.  You would also need a PC or laptop within about 10'15 feet as that is the limit of cable length on USB.

Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

Well he's not doing anything perverted if thats what you think.  He more like being a nusnace and doing passive aggressive things to our property like messin with the sprinkler system and moving the stuff in our garage around when we are not there.  Who knows??? He might be doing some wierd stuff too.

Don't rule out critters for messing with the stuff in your garage and playing with your sprinkler.

My two big near embarrassments with the neighbors from different houses:

1) Almost accused latest neighbor of mowing by hostas with his wild swipes on his new ZTR mower,
but found out that the deer were eating them

2) Almost accused neighbor of cutting my starter wires on my truck.
We had been arguing about his kid's Quad racing in my yard.
It turned out to be a deranged groundhog, eating the wire for the salt!

So have you found anything?  Remember smaller critters (<65lbs) usually won't trip a motion detector

Let me know if you do not come up with any hits for wildlife surveillance.  My cousin ran a successful deer hunting camp in Alabama and used these types of setups near feeders.  I can ask him how he set it up and how much it cost him.
