Title: Help With MD?
Post by: Credoors on September 23, 2003, 05:41:15 PM
hey...

i am a newbie taper...and have a sharp 702 MD recorder.  the problem is that when i am recording, the db level doesnt show up until i turn the rec. levels up or down and then it just brickwalls no matter how high or low my levels are.  i finally got the db levels to show up about 1 hour into my first show i taped, but that was luck.  anyone have any ideas on what im doing wrong?

peace,
danny

weird man, my only guess is to see whether or not the recording levels are set to manual instead of auto..   good luck...  hopefully you'll figure it out.

o ya, maybe thats the issue. Manual lets you pick the recording level. Ill try to look this up for you.

Definately check and see if you can turn off the automatic gain adjust. I think that particular MD deck has that as a default. Also keep in mind that some boards are a touch hot for MDs without some kind of attenuation between the board and your line in. You can get an attenuation cable for less than $10. Only bother with the cable if your mics come in fine, and you only have problems with soundboards.

I'd say something to do with the line input. Maybe even the pre is fried. I had a similar problem when I had my sony D6 analog deck. I hooked it up to a sbd and it fried the input.
