when I had the 391s I priced them in the US and was given a price of $500 for the pair...seemed absurd at the time...went with canare cables...

Okay y'all, I have a dumb question, hope you don't mind me asking it.  I scoured the archives but couldn't come up with an answer.  I can see what actives look like, I can see about what they cost, etc., but I have no idea what they actually *do*, and why one would use them, except for making a smaller profile setup.

Can anyone give me a brief synopsis of what active cables do, and what their benefits are?  Are they more responsive than using mic bodies?  That kind of stuff.

Much obliged!

peace,
Keith

keith- basically actives do what you say they do- they allow for lower profile setups including hanging mics without much visability.  Mainly they get used for stealthing for our purposes, but as you can see from this thread a lot of people who own them keep them attached all the time to their bodies.  +T for asking a question you thought was dumb, but weren't afraid to ask anyways!
