Topic: JB3 battery/voltage question

Well I have a JB3 on the way and the spare battery has gotten here first.

I looked at the battery and it says it's  a 3.6 volt LI-ion


Everything I have read puts the voltage at 5 volts...WTF?!?


Anyone want to take a look at the specified voltage on their JB3 battery??  I'm confused already!

Internal voltage on the lion batts is 3.6v.  JB3 takes 5v external power. No different from any other device taking internal batts at one voltage and external at another.

What other devices??   The only that come to mind that i have experiece with are a D7/8 and an mp2.  Both require 6 volts dc reguardless if the batteries are internal.  (4 x 1.5 volt AAs)

I was thinking of the D7/D8/D100/M1/SBM-1/MP2.  Add JB3 to the list.

If the battery is 3.6 volts and  the external is 5 v it isn't like a D7 or mp2.....they both require the SAME external and internal voltage.

D7/D8 = 4 x 1.5 (6v) or 4 x 1.2 (4.8v) v. 6v external
D100/M1 = 2 x 1.5v (3v) or 2 x 1.2v (2.4v) v. 4.5v external
MP2 = 2 x 1.5v (3v) or 2 x 1.2v (2.4v) v. 5v+ external

Though I suppose rechargables in D7/8 are close to 6v when fully charged.

Ahhhh...thanks Brian...for some reason I was thinking the mp2 took 4 AAs not 2.

Voltage difference is probably due to a voltage regulator (remember drops a volt to run it).  Car adapter says 5V 2.5a, and we KNOW it doesn't draw 2.5a - or maybe it DOES when it's CHARGING.

I have a similar problem with my Sony GRT-100 laptop.  Internal battery is 14.8v/4000mAh.  External input is 19.5V/6.5a.  Can't find an external battery to run it in the field.  Thinking of hacking the case and going direct to the internal battery hookup, but I got a 2 year extended warranty on it, and I think adding a DC plug and wiring mod to the case would kinda void it...
