Title: Canon A-1
Post by: gkatz on April 16, 2010, 02:14:45 PM
my friend had this camera given to him. He is wondering if it is worth selling. It might be from the 80s? appears to be in good condition. He also has a wide angle lense, along with the stock lense.

Also have the original Canon A-1 with add-on Wide lens.  Produced Mid 80's.  My camera's transport wore out doing time-lapse videos lasting many hours each so now tape is not handled reliably.

Pro about this model was very excellent full 20-20,000 bandwidth S-VHS Hi-Fi type audio that was not continued on later A-1 2'd gen models with intentionally 'detuned' limited <15K Hz bandwidths.  Detuned camera audio for prosumer cams continued on ALL Sony/Canon models until just recently so not to give lower <$5000 cameras pro audio ability.

Panasonic has mostly resisted this practice consistently having better-than-the-rest-audio in their modestly priced cameras
