Title: What's a better xlr connector to buy Neutrik or Switchcraft
Post by: Phil Zone on January 22, 2014, 07:58:14 PM
What's the better one? The models I'm looking at in specific are
Switchcraft a3m
Neutrik nc3mx

What would you get? In general what brand is better for xlrs? I ussually use switchcraft for my instrument and speaker cables, except speakons I use neutrik. I've only used switchcraft xlrs and have never built with neutrik, which is better?

Thanks
Cam

Would even a really thin wire work with it? Being would the connector hold on to release strain from pulling? I'm thinking sound a 28 gauge wire.

Neutrik product guide

Outer Diameter supported by most Neutrik XLR's 3.5mm to 8mm.  So as Jon says, build it up if using smaller diameter cable.

Neutrik is superior due to chuck style strain relief. Our company switched to Neutrik years ago due to durability. Most failed XLR cables in our shop are Switchcraft connectors, their strain relief systems don't hold up over the years. The switchcraft connectors with set screws last better than their crimp strains, but neither works as well as the Neutrik chuck. (and you don't need a tool for the Neutrik strain relief)
