Title: SP-CMC-4U Mics and the SP Black Hat

Hello Everyone! Newbie here with a application question: I have the SP-CMC-4U and the Black (Down-Low) Hat from Sound Professionals...When I install my Mics in the Black Hat how far do they need to be protruding?

Howdy - Great choice of mikes!  Hope you got the 4.7k/low-sense mod (or are powering alternately)...  Anyway, I've never mounted them using that hat, but imagine you need to put the vents where the caps screw on past the grommets so that the vents are exposed.  Anyway, I would try that at home and see how it sounds.

Trust- thanks for the advice! I have a SP BB with levels and roll-off. I opted out of the mod since I'm not a metal guy and the shows I want to capture are not super loud.
I placed the Mics like the website picture with the nose of the Mics barely protruding and when I recorded the car stereo, the results were okay but it sounded kinda muffled.
I'll push them through so the entire cap is exposed and see how that sounds. That will sure make the hat less down-low though.

It's not exactly the most stealthy thing...  But I'm sure it would work if you use the force. >:D  Also, it'll definitely get the job done doing FOB work for open taping bands.

Make sure the side vents are not covered. Unfortunately, that means that SP hat won't be very effective.

I hate that hat. Not good for stealth because the mics are visible.
Not good for omni mics because there is no baflle.
Not particularly good for cards because you can't aim the mics.

Putting the mics in the liner of a Kangol hat is much better. Great for stealth. You have a baffle (your head) with omnis. And you can arrange cards so they are angled away from each other and toward the stage if you go that route.
