Howdy folks! Much like a recent thread, it's been a quite few years since I've been committed to taping but am finding myself going to more shows lately, and I need to get back to it :)
My old setup was: Sonic Studios DSM 6S/L > PA_6LC > Nomad JB3 (wav @ 44.1 KHz 16 bit)
Unfortunately, the JB3 is no longer of much value because:
- I can no longer tell security people it's just a 'CD Player'. 2017 problems.
- It does not connect to my Mac. Again, 2017 problems.
I poked around the Recording Gear sub but am feeling a little overwhelmed. Hoping to get some recommendations on what I could replace the JB3 with? Ideally it's something on the smaller side of things; budget is under $500 or so.

If you can find a Sony M10 that powers the Sonics perfectly according to sonic studios and you could lose the battery box and just have mics to deck. :headphones:
-
2nd the M10...especially with a $500 budget.
Originally they went for as low as $200 new, but now are above that used (since they are so nice).
Several have popped up here lately for under $220.
Personally I'd pay up to about $300 for one (if mine broke).
Here's on on eBay at $150 now. I'm sure it will go higher:

And if you don't want to deal with an auction here is one for $250 (+ shipping) BIN:

This is pretty much the "standard" recorder now. There are other options if you want new, but I'd personally rather have a used M10. (the battery life is unreal).

Thanks for the suggestion, that looks exactly like what I was hoping to find! Ditching the battery box would be a sweet bonus, too. I've always been a little nervous of how I'd explain all the cabling under my shirt if I got caught.

Awesome info, thanks a lot I really appreciate it. I'll keep my eye on auctions and in the Yard Sale area here :)
I think the 2nd link you posted is something slightly different though, looks like a MD recorder.

The 2nd one is a M10. The person selling it just didn't title it very well. I gues technically it is a multitrack recorder...2 tracks is technically multi. :P
-
Ditto for the m10 so easy to pocket and to me the line I put stage sounds great for such a small deck. Can't beat long battery life either!
-
Plus you'll like 24 bit recording. The sonys are easy to use, too. I still think you'll need the power supply to prevent clipping on loud shows.

That's for a minidisc, not an m10

Interesting on the MD...I think the photo changed. WTF? Maybe I posted the wrong link. I blame lack of caffeine.
Yes...don't buy a MD.
