Title: AKG C1000 Cap Help>>>
Post by: waltflanagansdog on June 23, 2003, 10:10:06 AM
I recently got a pair of C1000's and included were two different caps.  One is about 1/2 inch long with a small hole in the center.  The other is about an inch long and has a bunch of tiny holes in the top and a filter inside.

What are these used for?

Thanks...Mike

One is the hypercard convertor, the other is a "Presence" boost.  Hypercard= obviously changes the polar pattern of the mic, the presence boost bumps the response in (I *think*) the 5khz range.
If you have the users manual, it'll identify all the parts in there.

A cardioid or hypercardioid pattern can be selected with the PPC1000 polar pattern converter. The PB1000 presence boost adapter provides an additional 5dB boost in the 5 to 9 kHz range in the cardioid range.

Hope this helps, JDS

The long one is the polar pattern converter to make the mic have a hyper cap.

The short one is a +10dB treble boost.

Thanks for the help.

What type of venue (inside bar, arena, amphitheatre) will these caps be used for.

The manual only tells me the presence and the names of each, with no description.

Thanks again!

Your best bet is to experiment and find out what your ears like.  In general, though, a reasonable guideline to follow is:

Cards:  up close in large venues, often good anywhere in small/medium venues, also great for good sounding rooms

Hypers:  far back in medium/large rooms, or poor sounding rooms

Presence:  not a clue!
