Post by: wrangler_n_space on July 23, 2003, 02:04:21 PM
OK so my dumbass bought a new laptop from and forgot to get a firewire jack for it. So i need to get a usb cable i suppose to do transfers with.

A regular cable is to big, any ideas were to pick a cable that will work.

I don't understand, if the JB3 has a firewire connection why would you want a USB cable?  Or is that it has both and you just need a USB B cable (the square looking one)?

If it's the former just pick up a PCMCIA FireWire adapger.  If it's the latter you can find it in any electronics store...

Just so you know, you can get virtually the same card new off ebay for $9 + shipping.  Just do a search for 1394 & a bunch will pop up.  I bought my PCMCIA USB 2.0 card they're for the same price & it works great.

wouldn't that be nice!  I doubt it will ever happen though.  I remember when Grace announced the V3, I think it was Marc Nutter who asked  if there was going to be a firewire out on it and Grace replied with something like it would cost close to $150,000 in research and engineering costs associated with adding a firewire port.  So Grace said that is simply wasn't in the budget for the V3.

Oade's good, but I don't think he's got the resources to put a firewire out on the v3.

Putting the port on is easy compared to writing the software and firmware for such a device. See Metric Halo's growth progress (and struggles) for an example of this.
