Topic: WaveLab Won't Join Tracks At 2gb Split (pissing me off!)

Ok so I've got some 24/96 files from a show that are split at the 2gb limit.

Normally I can copy the last portion of the 2gb (first) file, paste into a new file,
then copy the first portion of the second file, paste into the same new file to
get a seamless track.  With me so far?  I've done this numerous times without
issue.  Well, today, yesterday, I can't.

I can get the copy/paste done fine but upon trying to save the new file I only
get the result of the first copy/paste.  The second portion is simply discarded.
The wave form even looks fine at first, as soon as I change the display (zoom/
pan/whatever) the second portion of the file disappears from the screen.

Even before changing the display if I double click the file, to highlight the entire
thing, only the first copy/paste is highlighted.  It's like WaveLab doesn't know
the second portion exists, for some reason.

Anyone seen this before?  Know how to fix it?

I need to copy/paste both portions of the file before saving otherwise I get an
offset in the tracks resulting in a blip at the splice.  WTF!

I'll try some other files and see what I get, maybe these two files
are screwed up some how.

I just open one file, then use edit, instert audio file, at end.  It then puts the second file on the end of the first with no gaps. Then save it as a different file.

try changing from 32 bit temp file to 24 bit temp files.

I've tried that also, same result.  It only save the first part of the file.

No dice.  Same issue.

This show has 4 files, 2 at 2gb and 2 at, well... less than 2gb.

This worked fine on the second 2gb split.  But it sure as hell isn't working
for the first split.  I don't know how else to join the files.

It may be time for a uninstall/reinstall just for shits and giggles.

Nope.  I'll try a reinstall first.  I just don't understand what the issue is.  Is very
odd to watch the second part of the file disappars after changing the display.
Somethin' is a muck.

One thing I always do now is when you have them joined initially, have you tried deleting the useless little marker it adds at the join point? Just a suggestion...that marker prevents me from highlighting the "whole" new file. Although it does sound like something is amiss, I swear in the past I have been able to save the new file without deleting the markers in the past

Yeah I've tried leaving the markers, deleting them, different type of markers, etc..
Even tried the cut/paste "in reverse" just to see if it made any difference.  Hopefully
I'll have some time to play with it today.

The absolute maximum size for a wav file is 4. So if only a tiny bit is added somehow a+b might become more than 4.

Suggestion: split b in a break somewhere, gettin b1 and b2. You should now be able to concat a+b1.

Lets see if I can explain this clearly.

I've got a total of 4 files.

1.wav
2.wav
3.wav
4.wav

1 and 3 are at 2gb each.
2 and 4 are 500 and 800mb (or whatever)

Each of these 4 files contain "generic" track markers.

I open 1.wav double click between the last track marker (start of the last song in the 2gb file)
and the end of the file.  Copy it to the clipboard.

Start a new .wav file at 24/96

Paste the contents of the clipboard to the new file.

I then open 2.wav double click between the beginning of the file and the first track marker
(the remainder of the last track from 1.wav).  Copy it to the clipboard.  Switch to the new
file, press the "end" key on the keyoard, and paste.

I now have the complete song in one file, unsaved.

I save the file and watch the progrees bar in the lower left corner.  It never reaches
100%.  It generally stops at 57% or 58% (happens to be the percentage that equals
the length of the first cut/paste).

At this point, I THINK I've got the entire song.  Wave form looks good and complete.

Two things at this point that make the second portion of the file disappear:

1. Close/reopen the file, only the first cut/paste has remained intact.  The second
part was simply discarded.

2. After saving (not closing the file) if I change the display (pan/zoom) the second
part disappears from the screen.

remember that that 2 gig limit is an NTFS file system limit, and it can be over ridden by keeping all the waves in .w64 format as opposed to .wav.

wavelab5 doesn't support .w64,  wavelab6 does.


the best way to join fiiles in wavelab for me is to

OPEN WAVELAB
FILE > OPEN>WAVE...

HIGHLIGHT THE 4 WAVES IN THE DIRECTORY OF YOUR CHOICE AND LOOK IN THE LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE DIALOG BOX..OPEN IN "AUDIO MONTAGE"..CHECK THAT BOX

the waves have a tiny gap between them but you can slide the waves that micro space together, by hand with the mouse..simple to do.

you then render a new wave out of montage with the four joined files.


the reason the second wave is " disapperaing" is beacuse of the NTFS file system 2 gig limit..ya cant write a 5 gig wave file on a NTFS file system....but again you can if you use the .w64 format...you would then do your tracking in wavelab still in w64...and then spilt the .w64 whole show file into managable .wav files with auto split...
