24 bit .wav problem
« on: June 18, 2009, 11:51:31 AM »
I use Wavelab and I am having a big problem.

I have a file that is 24/48 (1st part of phish 6/12/09).  I use a R-44 and it split at the 2GB limit.

The file plays fine in Foobar, opens in Wavelab fine, opens in CDWave fine.

In Wavelab when I try to resample>dither>save 16/44.1 I get NO SAVED FILE.  NONE.

In CDWave I open and save it into a new directory and it would not open in Foobar.  I chose to save using the alternate 224 bit and it saves and opens fine.

I just tried to re-open the new post-CDWave alt24bit file in Wavelab and resample>dither>save 16/44.1 and I get NO SAVED FILE.

It is like it is copy or save protected.  I tried two different XP64 machines and NO GO.  HELP!

FWIW, I had NO PROBLEMS with any of my other 24/48 Bonnaroo sets

FWIW2, the wave header utility here at ts.com wont run on x64

Anyone?  I just tried the FixWav utility and it says my header is fine.

Another observation for those of you lurking on this.  My normal 2GB split files are 2,096,003 and this one is 2,096,997.  Upon processing I do not get a EXCEEDING 2GB warning but maybe I should try splitting it in two first and then processing it?

If Wavelab converts to float format for internal processing, turn that option off if you can. Otherwise, you might do as you suggested... split the file first.

Float format (32-bit) is 25% larger than 24-bit. So maybe it's hitting some limit. I would think that they have a workaround for that though.

You might also try Samplitude SE or Reaper.

After days and days of hoping that I would wake up and my file would be normal again I finally tried to split it in two and it saved fine.  For some reason the R-44 saved a file that was a hair larger than the 2GB limit.

Odd.
