Chipmunk speed up with AD-20 & iriver
« on: April 01, 2010, 11:40:40 PM »
Replaced the hard drive in my Iriver H140, reinstalled Rockbox and was happy to record my band again with it (hooked to Denecke AD-20 preamp/digital converter with Sampson phantom power unit and two mics).  It worked fine. However, at the second practice the recording came out at chipmunk speed.  It sounds that way when playing from the iriver and after I transfer the files to my computer. I don't think I changed any settings. However, at the start of the session (befor the music got underway) I think I changed the AD-20 battery while the iriver was recording but paused. Maybe that had something to do with it. The file format is PCM Wave. Not sure what's going on. Any ideas? Is there any way to know how much I should slow it down to get the  original speed. Any help would be appreaciated.

check and see what sample rate you recorded at...should be 44.1 kHz...sometimes the iriver will record at a different rate and you can easily change it back with some editing software.

According to Rockbox manual: "You cannot change the sample rate for digital recordings." The "frequency" is set to "same as source" when you choose "digital" as the recording source.  (Note: I modified my question after you responded, noting that "at the start of the session (before the music got underway) I think I changed the AD-20 battery while the iriver was recording but paused. Maybe that had something to do with it.")

Check the sticky at the top of the Computer-Related forum for some options to fix this fairly common issue.
