SSIA. I would bet that the microSD's are cheaper and easier to get? Also, the M-10 uses microSD, NOT microSDHC ??? Is there even such a thing as a microSDHC ???

Also, does anyone use their remote?

TIA,
Bean

Well
look at NewEgg they have 16GB cards - but it's a beter deal to buy 2 8GB cards or 4 for that matter

Yeah, I always use newegg for stuff like that. I have used Ri-Data CF Cards in my 722 for 5 years now, so I'll prob just get 2 x 16gb Ri-Data MicroSD Cards :) I just asked which one is better because I have already gone thru 3 frickin MicroSD Cards in my phone, so if I have that kind of luck w/ my new M10, I'll be scrapping the whole microsd thing, and getting a few memory sticks ;)

Most likely they are cheaper and easier to get than the other "memory stick micro" which I guess is a Sony proprietary format? I think they did the same thing with the memory stick pro duo format which I use in my Sony PSP with no problems, but it would be nicer being able to use a "universal" type of card. I'd definitely stick with the more universal microSD/microSDHC format.

>Also, the M-10 uses microSD, NOT microSDHC ??? Is there even such a thing as a microSDHC

I believe I have read the M-10 can use the microSDHC, most newer electronics that use the microSD can also use the HC version. Most of your larger microSD cards like 16GB and up will mostly be the HC versions, not that you can't find some that are not HC.

I don't have an M-10, but I do have quite a few of the microSD and microSDHC cards (Sandisk & Kingston) upto 8GB and have had no issues with any in the gadgets I use them in.

Bean if you're having bad luck w/ microSD cards one thing that might help is to just leave them in the device and connect the device to the computer via usb cable for data xfer.  It's usually a little slower than using a card reader but a lot safer for the card IMO.

The OP also asked about using the remote. I do, all the time. Recorder in camera case on belt, turned on, set to a generally workable Manual level (depending on your mic/preamp setup). Then I use the remote to Start, Track mark during applause and Stop. I find it does create a little bit of static if you use it to light up the display during recording (pressing Record while recording) to check levels, but Track marking is silent. There's no need to be handling the recorder unless you see the red limiter lights.

Yeah, if you're using 96/24 but at 48/24 (mathematically) its 33 hours.  ;D ;D
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

I have some Sandisk M2 16GB cards that I just bought from amazon for about $16 each. They write at a very slow speed which is still adequate for recording up to 24/96, and they transfer (read) at a faster rate, but still very slow. When I tried to copy files onto them (using a pro-duo adapter also from amazon - bout a buck and a half, free shipping) it went REALLY slowly.

So I'd say from experience, to stick with the more popular MicroSDHC. Yes they make Micro SD that's NOT HC, I still have my 512MB that I got for my phone in 2006, and it works in my M10, but not for very long!

The original SD spec goes up to 4GB but not many 4GB cards were produced before the HC spec was available, so you'll mostly find 2GB and below lacking the HC (High Capacity) designation.

The HC spec is for SD and MicroSD cards 4GB - 32GB.
There is now an SDXC spec that goes from 32GB up to 2TB. Yow.

http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdxc
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital

Also,  just to note, it does not seem to freak the M10 out at all if you change cards with the power on. I would not try it while recording, however...

I'll +1 on the Transcend Class 6 microsdhc card as well.  Read/Write speeds of 20/18 through CrystalDiskMark -- that and they're very trustworthy.  IMHO, 8GB gives you 7 1/2 hours of recording time at 24/48 plus you have the internal 3.5 GB as well for another 3 1/2 hours.  That's 11 hours total time which should be good for a day at a festival before you can transfer out.

16GB or greater cards have given me problems in the past as well (and generally tend to be slower as well).
