Topic: looking to improve microphones for live club music

hey guys, I need some advise... I have been taping for three months now.. I currently use the sony pcm-m10 and use the sp-cm-2 microphones by sound professionals.. they are Deluxe Audio Technica Cardioid Stereo mics.. and also use SP-SPSB-11 as my microphone power supply.. Ive had a couple of shows that I recorded that sounded great.. But the only thing i notice is when the singer hits the higher notes it tends to break.. it seems like the mics tend to distort.. the bass doesnt get in the way..  does anyone know if I need to replace these mics or if it could be another reason?  i was thinking of ordering churchs 11 or 14..  any suggestions would be appreciated..  thanks....

Did the vocals "break" or distort at the performance?  If so, it may have been the PA, and not the mics, that caused the distortion.

If you provide a small sample, it may help others identify potential causes.

Sounds to me like you might need the low sensitivity mod on those mics.... though usually bass is what overloads these small mics, not vocals.  It might be useful if you posted a short MP3 sample.  The biggest problem consistently seen with Sound Pros gear on this board is people don't pay for the "low sensitivity" mod.  SP should know better by now than to sell a single set of mics to anyone recording anything that is very heavily amplified (i.e., virtually all rock and guitar and/or keyboard-based music) without telling them to get that mod...

more like it breaks.. at the concert i dont hear the break... its when i get home that you can identify it on high pitch notes.. its not really bad on the recording but I can hear it... ill try to put a sample up.. thanks...
