Topic: DPA 4061 Problem

Hi guys.  Having some issues with a set of 4061's (HEB) that I just purchased used.  While testing them out this am, I noticed a 12 db difference between the two channels while doing a test recording.  I understand these were originally matched to 1db by CS.  I'm no rocket scientist, but thinking I might have an issue. 

4061's (HEB) > Switchable Battery Box (flat) > M10

Unplugged mics & recorded with M10 internals - no problem, levels looked good.
Visually checked stereo plug & wires, nothing visually wrong.
Replaced the battery in the battery box, no different.

Any suggestions what the issue might be? 

I very much appreciate any feedback from those with more knowledge than I.

First- the seller needs to pay to get them fixed

Second, lots of Coresound ones have wiring problems - mine did when I bought them. You should hope that is all that is wrong with yours. If the wiring is fixed and the mics themselves aren't shot, everything will be fine. Len will take a month to fix them.  I would see if Chris Church would kindly rewire them for you.  Len fixed mine but I eventually had Chris re-terminate. If I had it to do over again I'd have a 5pin mini-XLR or binder put on the end and run them to a tinybox.

Ya, tried that too.  I can get my $$ back, but,  it still sucks when your toys are not working right!  I'll give Len a call Monday and see what he thinks.  If I can't get them fixed (at sellers expense) then maybe I'll just get a set of B3's............oh darn.......

If it's not a simple wiring issue (probably isn't if you don't have intermitancy or static) the mic is likely fried.  I've had it happen before and a 10-12dB loss of sensitivity is the first indication.  If it still has the serial number attached you can send it to DPA for a check out, but they'll need to cut off the termination to do so.  If fried they will replace it for around $60-70 less than list.  I'd return them to the seller and have them send them in.

Agreed.  DPA mics can be very expensive to get repaired.  As Gutbucket suggested, return them to the seller to get fixed at the very least.  Worst case, I'd also be prepared to ask for your money back, wash your hands of it and purchase some other microphones.

Happy ending.  Got my money back and bit the bullet.  I am now the happy owner of  SMK 4061 > MPS6030 > M10.    Darktrain cable on the way too.
