Vintage JVC Microphone...thoughts?
« on: October 18, 2012, 10:38:15 AM »
Ok - In my shopping around Ebay for the Primo/Nak clone JVC M-510 - I started to notice this JVC mic.

I thought they were unusual for a Japanese mic...

The screw on connector and the capsule - look suspiciously German/Euro to me...

I've come to find this is a measurement mic that was an accessory for one of JVC equalizers.

It runs on a single AA battery.

I've fired it up - and it seems to sound quite nice...havent used it live yet.

This mic is much smaller than I expected.

Satisfied with this one - I scooped another one that had been one ebay for awhile - So now I have a pair.

Im wondering if I might be able to run this on a 9V battery and get a little more SPL handling out of it.

Very nice mics. I actually just won a ebay auction for 1 of the same mic, I think. It is a JVC M 510, but it appears different than yours. I don't have this mic yet, I really just won it. Not even sure why I got it, but for some reason I've wanted a shotgun of late. I was also looking at some older EV mics.

No you mic is definately different.  You mic is the JVC version of the Nakamichi mics all of which were made by primo.

Sounds good.
I knew Tascam and Teac had NAK knock offs, but I did not know JVC also had one.
thanks for the info

I was the backbidder on that one - I laid out because - I just can't figure out why I really need another 510... :P

Before the secret was out - you could get these for around 20 bucks...I had like 5-6 at one point...

I sold all mine off - but kept 3 of the shotgun capsules...which fit and work with the rest of the Nak/TEAC/TASCAM/Primo family of mics.

The gun cap sounds very nice - not as tube-y sounding as the the CP4s can be.
Its a few inches shorter than the Nak Cp4 - and referred to as a "Super Cardioid" in the specs...but is for sure an interference tube gun...
