Topic: Software for use with DR-100mkII and a Mac?

I've decided to retire my DAT recorders and purchase a Tascam DR-100mkII. This is a whole new realm for me.

My question is: What program should I use to manipulate files from the DR-100mkII with a G5 iMac? I have Toast to burn CDs from FLAC files that I have converted to AIFF with xACT 1.73, but I need something to add track indexes, etc. Or do I do that on the recorder before before putting the files into the computer?

To get files from recorder to the computer - you take out the SD card - and put it in your computer, and drag and drop (or whatever mac users do) the files to your computer.

One you have your files on your computer - Audacity should do everything you need.

Can't Toast burn from FLAC? Do you really have to convert to AIFF first?

I've heard of Audacity. My friend Klingklang uses it. But I thought it was just a PC program?

I have the free 'mini' version of Toast. It just copies discs and makes audio and also data CDs. It will only take WAV or AIFF files. (What is the difference between WAV and AIFF files?)

I'm pretty sure there is a MAC version of Audacity. Jeff.  AIFF are Apple's proprietary version of WAV files.

Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) is an audio file format standard used for storing sound data for personal computers and other electronic audio devices. The format was co-developed by Apple Computer in 1988 based on Electronic Arts' Interchange File Format (IFF, widely used on Amiga systems) and is most commonly used on Apple Macintosh computer systems.  The audio data in a standard AIFF file is uncompressed pulse-code modulation (PCM).

WAV is the main format used on Windows systems for raw and typically uncompressed audio. The usual bitstream encoding is the linear pulse-code modulation (LPCM) format.
