actually, maybe I could get away with getting an extension for my broken AEA. The top section is stuck and won't move, but the rest is fine

The Mathews baby telescoping extension is good for 4 feet and cheaper than the competition. Have you contacted AEA about repairs or parts?

As I mentioned before, the Manfrotto 12ft. Alu Masters (about $115) are nice, air cushioned, and stack/lock together for convenient carrying.
I also have the B&H Impact 13ft, which is cheap, but likely won't last - their collars are all plastic with brass threaded inserts. Great while they last.

To convert the baby 5/8 light stud I use the B&H Impact CA-102 3/8 Rapid Adapter ($9) to convert to 3/8 threaded stud, which fits those mic clip inserts which I loctite onto the adapter above some washers.

Where do I even find contact info for AEA?

I might run back to b&h today to check out your suggestions. Thanks

His server appears to be down now, but it's

wesdooley.com or  ribbonmics.com

Wes Dooley is the founder/owner of AEA.

yeah, thanks. Saw those, but they seem a hell of a lot bigger than the old 15 footer

If you get in contact with AEA at all and they have parts/ spares, I want one...  You're right that the manfrotto stands are just plain bulky.  I'd buy one like you have in a heartbeat.
