Hooked up my new HSU STF-1 Subwoofer last night....
« on: August 05, 2004, 11:28:29 AM »
Over the past few months I've replaced my consumer grade system with a system that nibbles at the lower-end of the audophile world:

NAD C320BEE Integrated Amp
NAD PP1 Phono Preamp
NAD 521i CD Player
Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 Speakers
My old Denon Turntable
Grado Red Cartridge

I was basically pleased, but there was a definite lack in the low end. The Ascend Acoustics are impressive, but there's just no way they're gonna dish out enough bass. So, I went for the lower end HSU sub and man oh man what a difference! I've never had a powered sub before, and I know there are bigger & better ones out there, but this definitely puts some punch where it was lacking before! I need to play some more with placement and settings, but I think I'm done for awhile....

I love the NAD! It's only 50 watts per channel, but that seems to be more than enough for my listening room and habits. Plus, from all I've read, NAD is very conservative in their power claims.

I replaced my old Yamaha integrated amp, TDK cd player/burner, and Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble II system all at the same time, so it's hard for me to critique any individual component. All in all, though, the improvement has been amazing, and the sub is the final icing.

Until the upgrade bug hits.... :)

Nice, good to hear the system is sounding good. I've been saving up for a Hsu Research VTF-2 to back up my Paradigm Active 20's (2 way powered bookshelfs). I think adding a sub will let them play louder and cleaner, could use a little more PHIL in my playback!
Happy listening,
Ben

obviously there is nicer gear out there but for quality sounding products at really reasonable prices, well I can't complain!
