DAP1 Question...
« on: December 10, 2004, 04:52:52 PM »
I was using my DAP1 last night to clone some tapes, and ran across a (possibly minor) problem.

The unit powers up and plays just fine, but the "Record" and "Pause" buttons will not engage...they appear to be stuck somehow.

Any ideas? Anybody ever had this happen before? I was gonna take the deck apart, but didn't wanna screw anything else up by poking around.

Thanks in advance...

sounds like there is a problem with the blank dat, not with the deck, try another dat and see what happens, sounds a little elementary but this is what happens when I try to recycle a dat but have not yet moved that little sudder back into its original position

Is the tape icon blinking when you press the buttons?

Not entirely sure, I'll have to check whenI get home.

I'm pretty sure that's not it, as the tape I was trying worked just fine when I switched the decks...i.e. used the DAP1 as the playback deck.

Well, in case anyone's interested...I described the problem to the folks at Pro Digital, and they seem to think the shafts on the inside of "Pause" and "Record" buttons are broken. So it was something I couldn't have fixed myself anyway.

I guess the deck's off to PA for repairs and cleaning...

Yep, that happened to me also. See if the pause button will work during playback mode. The rec and pause button are on the same assembly. No biggie to fix.

those tapes aren't write protected with the tab are they?

Any part numbers you can remember? Places to buy/order online?

Any tips or help you could give would be appreciated. I'd love to try and do this myself...

It's pretty easy my one suggestion is that you know ahead of time what you need to unscrew and what you don't. I just started unscrewing everything when in fact the front pannel does not require everything to be unscrewed. It was a while ago and I'm sure someone else can describe or point you to a resource better than I can.
