What Upgrades Are On Your Wishlist?
« on: November 19, 2007, 11:00:02 AM »
Just curious what others are planning as far as upgrades. It seems to be the nature of the beast that it's never *completely* finished!

Here's what's on my list:

- Interconnects (probably AntiCables)
- Phono preamp (Cambridge Audio Azur 640P currently at the top of the list)
- Phono cartridge
- CD player (probably one of the Rega models)
- Hornshoppe Cube (fill in the bottom end, allow me to pull the Horns out of the corners and in tighter)

And then, after all that, MAYBE:
- Some type of power conditioner
- A separate DAC

Also considering an upgrade to my turntable, but I do love my old Denon!

I'm pretty happy with my main system, though I'd like a turntable. Don't see it happening anytime soon, though.

I do want to have a second system for the upstairs "sitting room." We just have one of those iHome iPod players up there now. I'm thinking of putting together something small like this:

 - Cambridge Audio 340A integrated amp
 - Monitor Audio BR2 speakers
 - Oppo DVD-A/SACD player

I could cart my Squeezebox between the upstairs and downstairs as well. There's a bunch of nice integrated amps (new and used) in the price range of the 340A and a bunch of nice sounding bookshelf speakers in the BR2 price range as well. So, I'll have a lot of options. If/when this gets completed, the components would probably consist of the best audiogon/eBay deals at the time. Should be able to have the whole system done for very cheap.

I am thinking about buying a CD/DVD deck for my main stereo system. I have turntables and tape decks, but there is no way to play a CD  :-X

I also want a lot of other things... serious mics + preamp, for example.

Larger flash cards for the Fostexes and one that's a few years away, a larger listening room (not looking forward to demoing one wall).  :)

I'm very happy with my system but two things I'd really like like are:
- a new Dynavector 10x5 cartridge
- a nice equipment rack

I am happy...really dont have a desire to switch out anything in my system, which is something I am pretty happy about considering I have had the core of it since early this year and the analog end of it since mid year and I am really happy.

Only addition is one that i have been struggling with for a while is rear surrounds (as this is my playback and surround sound system).  The room available for the surrounds is tight as the chairs are against the back wall, so I was leaning towards the B&W LM-1s, but I am concerned they may not give me the "punch" I want...thinking about trying to get a small set of bookshelfs...like the Tannoy M-1s...who knows though...

ooh, forgot that one! I need *something* better than my dry brush, especially for those albums that I've had since the 60's!

I have no real desires for upgrades at this time either.  though, I would like some "nick time" w/no wife and no kids to crank some tunes.

Not to rub it in but I get this everyday.  My wife works days and I work nights.  So I have the house to my self from whenever I get up (~11am) til 4pm everyday.  I usaully hole myself in the computer/listening room for a couple hours a day just surfing the web and spinning vinyl.

I need a better cart, but I'm waiting till the current one wears out. I figure by then I'll have settled on the replacement. Toying with the idea of a new tt mat, since the stock AR mat is not static friendly.

I've been thinking about a dac, but since the tt is sucking up all my listening time, cd's have become in-car only, so there is no real point.

Lusting after a Naim "Supernait" integrated at present.  80 punchy watts of uber-musicality, 5 digital inputs to boot.  I'm sure someone will say you can do better for the money but I have some good friends in the industry which helps on the cost.  Unfortunately Santa isn't going to be kicking down that hard this year but I have a bunch of goodies to sell which will put me closer.  Just ditched my Benchmark DAC1 and CEC transport for an Arcam CD23T(uses the DCS ring dac) which puts me ahead of the game at this point.  Great player by the way, highly recommended...

Not my jones since I scored Brian's Bel Canto DAC 1.1  ;D , but an audiophile friend of mine just called me breathlessly today to give me the news:

He's a tube fan, and has a spectacularly imaging system of all-tube gear with these great swiss speakers that he's built over the years. Its astonishingly real. I freakin love it. Can't remember any of his equipment details right now of course.. but he bought one of those cheapish modded, uh... citipulse or zualhu or something DACs with USB for his portable tube system. For a laugh he hooked it up to his main stereo and found it didn't sound near as good as the analogue out of his tubed CD player. So he tried the USB to his laptop and was so floored with delight that its instantly officially permanent, and he's full bore into to computer transport, reading up on flac, EAC, and friends! hehehe...

Not sure if that was directed at me, but if so, trust me.....it will take *years* to knock off my list! It's a "wishlist", not a "Christmas shopping list". In fact, since a $1200 upgrade last year (Horns + Almarro), all I've added are the AntiCables. And nothing is planned for the this Christmas (and my wife sure as hell isn't going to *surprise* me with any of the stuff on the list!).
