Tried both active and passive for ports 21 and 2001.  Same message as before when trying to connect with port 21.  When attempting with port 2001:

"Resolving host name 69.11.210.138...
Connecting to (69.11.210.138) ->  IP: 69.11.210.138 PORT: 2002
Connected to (69.11.210.138) -> Time = 188ms
Socket connected waiting for login sequence.
Cannot login waiting to retry (120s)..."

damn, this is tricky. So, under the domain name I change port to 2001. However, when I look at the activity it says server not listening on port 2001 already in use. Why is this?

Could not connect to 69.11.210.138 -- try again later: Operation timed out.
Sleeping 137 seconds.

this is what i get when i try

if you are behind a router, try putting the computer you are using as a server outside the DMZ zone, and see if you can get people to connect that way. if they can, then you either don't have your router set up properly. make sure you have whatever port you are using (21) forwarded to the CORRECT computer

also, some isp's will block port 21...my comcast provider does, so i have to use an alternate port number for ftp...i use 420

try using a different port number, and forward that port to your computer

ok. i can make a connecion, but i get a hold when asking for a directory wth the list -al command

have you set a file or a directory to be viewed for the login?

have you "turned on" file sharing for that directory?

hang in there...you are almost there

I made another adjustment. I do have one question. When I went to my modem configuration I fowarded port 2000-2010 to tcp 192.168.0.2. My question is should I have fowarded them to 69.11.210.138? Thanks for all the help!

You did it right.  Buy you may have some trouble using 2001 as your control port if it's also assigned in your range for PASV.

Where did you set port 2001?  In the server software or did you just forward 2001 to port 21 on your machine?

In my modem setup/configuation I fowarded 2001 to get past a firewall from my dsl company. I think I have everything set up right. Anyone care to test it?

I can get in but no listing - have you given view rights and a folder with something in it?

Also, when trying PASV mode, I get a message saying
1/12/2004 1:47:54 AM This server does not appear to support passive mode FTP, retrying...

Sounds like it hasn't been enable on your server.

so did you forward port 2001 on the modem to port 21 on your pc?  You said "I fowarded 2001" but not where to...which port and machine?
