When running actives with the sth100 mount and the XY or ORTF bars, any suggestions on shockmounting?
I've looked into the small shempz mount and the dpa mount to possibly place the base of the sth100 into. Are there any other ideas out there?
I've also thought about a way I can spring mount the sth100 to the stand...I think I have a good method to do it. This may also be a more low-profile approach also. Share your thoughts...

I've used the at8410a and the schoeps a20. I like the schoeps better because of the size but the AT will work fine too!
-
The Shure A53M may work, also. Dunno. I was always happy with the Schoeps A20S.

I use a Tensimount shockmount (http://www.tensimount.com/). At $12.95 you can't beat the price. if you put the sth100 mount through the entire shockmount, you can't do XY. But I think the 140s sound better orft anyways.

Is it threaded inside, or do you have to use a mic clip?

i got the neumann shock thing and it sucks for sustained bombardment, dont get it.

You need a mic clip. http://www.tensimount.com/tensimount.htm

a20-s ...couldn't be happier....actually got 2 so I can run DIN. small and quality and $65 each. not bad for the (IMHO) extremely over priced schoeps stuff.

FWIW, you can finagle a DIN config using a single shockmount and the Neumann XY/ORTF bar.

i have used Brian's technique for DIN and it is pretty effective...you basically use all three parts of the stereo config bar so that you have one xy arm in the bottom, the ortf arm faced downward (i think) on top of it anad then the other xy arm on top of that upward facing the wrong direction. the upper xy arm can swing freely, you just have to eyeball 90 degrees and then screw it all down. you put the actives in the backward-facing xy arms. i'm sure this explanation makes absolutely zero sense but if you mess around with the stereo mount long enough, you'll eventually figure it out.

Here's my attempt at explaining how to use the KM140 active bar for DIN:

I got two ORTF bars plus the XY bars with my set. The cool thing with this is the way I mounted 2 ORTF bars on the STH100 to get a bar set-up that allows me to run either ORTF or DIN with the same mount. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.... :coolguy:

I'll have to digest that but do you get 17cm to 20cm (hyper/cards) separation?

I think it was 20cm, but not positive. If it is 20cm, you can reduce it to 17 by sliding each bar towards the center a bit. Obviously, if it's only 17cm to start with, you won't be able to extend out to 20cm. Let us know what you find?

i need a pic......

yes, somebody please post a pic of how your mounting these w/the 8410a mount or other methods you have, thanks! ;D

So here is the din/ortf mount I hooked up using 2 ortf bars and an sth100 base. I gives me a nice option to run either config from the same mount. Glad that set came with an extra ortf mount! :coolguy:

din, top view....

ortf, top view....it's a little cut off....
-
but how are you mounting you sth100 on a shock mount?
-
Mark, I'm working on that one as we speak....
Someone just startred talking about the din setup on page one, so I figured I'd post these too. I may go the a20 route, unless I come up with something creative. :wink2:

I got off my lazy bunghole and messed around some.Tim let me know if this resembles how you did it.

+T for the pics Mark. I was interested in seeing the sth100 mounted into the 8410! :coolguy:

yeah, I think I'm gonna give this a shot 1st night creek to give it some field testing, velcro the cables up nice and proper like, should be good to go. :coolguy:

Jon, is this the one you are talking about?
-
yes! i use it, but it aint that great. although my mic stand had bounced around pretty bad(ziggys-nc;cains ballroom-tulsa), the tapes werent affected. either way, i should have sent it back.
-
yeah, stands get tossed around pretty bad at ziggy's,I'm waiting for the floor to give in that joint one of these days.

Hey Brian, Damon...I had time to check out your DIN set up and it does in deed get close, pretty cool. I measured 19.5 cm outer edge to outer and 18 on centers. Looking for 20cm for the cards.
Since the hypers are "suppose" to be set at 17cm and depending on how it is measured (worse case) 18cm achieved for cards (vice 20cm) Wonder how much it affect it having the cards closer than "spec" . I guess it is a compromise of doing the best w/ what you have. In all actuality, I doubt I'd ever know the difference.
Did you measure 20cm "exactly"?
Definitely a cool use of time., thanks for the tip.
peace
